Introducing BALKAPALOOZA! 2006
BALKAPALOOZA! is a new hands-on intensive workshop for motivated young musicians in the Twin Cities who:
- are current students of Eastern European folk music who seek a deeper knowledge of these art forms and would like the opportunity to work with guest area specialists to sharpen already strong ensemble skills. (intermediate/advanced level participation recommended)
- are new to Eastern European folk music and would like to gain understanding of the various cultures and basic music techniques. (introduction/exploratory level participation recommended)
- would like to gain more experience in Eastern European-specific ensemble playing. (introduction/exploratory level participation recommended)
Intermediate/advanced level students are invited after a formal assessment by a BALKAPALOOZA! faculty mentor. The workshop runs August 21-25, 2006, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for intermediate/advanced. These students also participate in the weekend intensive, August 26-27, 2006, from 1-4 p.m.
Introduction/exploratory level students must already have had previous study of a specific instrument. Ability to read music is helpful, but not mandatory (aural learners will have additional preparatory work). The workshop runs August 26-27, 2006, from 1-4 p.m. for introduction/exploratory students.
Countries of focus for BALKAPALOOZA! 2006 are Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.
